I’ve been using Dr. Bronner’s castile soap for a while now.  In our home,  you will find Dr. Bronner’s in the bathroom, shower, by the washing machine and under the kitchen sink.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps have been around for 60 years. Their castile soap is a good, all-purpose, non-toxic, oil-based soap. It comes in a variety of  scents and an unscented variety.  Even the bottles are 100% recycled plastic.  You can even brush your teeth with it. Here is a list of the things I have used it for:

  • Shower gel – the smell alone is a great pick-me-up in the shower. It leaves your skin soft with no soapy build-up like some bar soaps will.
  • Shampoo -  It is okay as a shampoo, but some people have a problem with it leaving a residue and greasy feeling. I have followed it with Dr. Bronner’s Shikakai rinse and this helps remove some of that build-up.
  • Hand soap -  It is an awesome hand soap. I especially like it in the kitchen if I have been baking or cooking. It cuts grease well and leaves my hands clean and fragrant.  BEWARE of the little hard , crusty things that build up where the soap comes out. This will actually cause the soap to squirt where ever it can (usually onto your guests that follow with a shriek.)
  • Dish soap – If you are going camping, you could take this for a dish soap, to brush your teeth with and shower with.  I don’t use it as a dish soap. It doesn’t seem to suds up enough and last as other dish soaps do.
  • Laundry – I have added castile soap to my laundry when I have an especially soiled load.
  • Odor remover – My four year old wore a pair of Mary Jane type sneakers all last summer. Without socks. I washed them to no avail. She begged me not to get rid of them. I lathered the inside with castile soap, let them sit overnight and then washed them.  OMG. I am still in awe of how well it worked. With two kids and all of the smells associated with them, castile soap is  a ‘shoe saver.’
  • Floor cleaner – I do not recommend using this as a floor cleaner.  I found that I had a residue on my linoleum.
  • Shave gel – By far, this is my favorite use.  I have not has razor burn in a few years. The oily ingredients glide the razor for a smooth shave, leaving your skin soft.  My husband has even started using it when he shaves his head.
  • Car cleaner – I have  a van and two kids. Need I say more about the abuse that the van takes?  The last time I went to clean the inside, I diluted Bronner’s with some warm water and went to work. I used it on the carpet, the dash, the seats, and everywhere else. It was great! It left a pleasant smell and gave the dash a shine!

If you don’t already use Bronner’s, it is a great product.  There are so many uses for it. These are just a few that I have found it handy for.  The bottle also suggests use for diapers, pets, deodorant, beach, dentures and more.  We have a variety of scents available.

If you already use Bronner’s, we’d love to learn what you love best about it. Maybe we have even given you a few ideas!
